AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Massachusetts scored touchdowns on three of its first four possessions to help the team to a 62-20 win over Connecticut on Saturday.

The victory, which was the team's seventh in a row, moved the Minutemen (8-3, 7-1 Atlantic 10) into a tie with James Madison for the league championship.

The Minutemen led 52-0 before Connecticut (4-7, 3-5) got on the board in the third quarter on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Brian Hoffman to John Tasiltaridis.

Massachusetts jumped to a 38-0 halftime lead after Marcel Shipp ran for two touchdowns and Todd Bankhead passed twice for touchdowns to Eric Bross.

Massachusetts also scored on a 60-yard interception return by Jerard White and a 28-yard field goal by Jason Cherry.

Shipp rushed 24 times for 142 yards. His three 1-yard touchdown runs gave him a school-record 20 touchdowns for the season.

Hoffman had an 18-yard touchdown pass to Ayo Sorrells in the fourth quarter. The Huskies also scored on a 70-yard fumble return by Jeff DeLucia.
