AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts remained undefeated in swimming and diving this season, as both the men?s and women?s swimming and diving teams were victorious on Saturday afternoon at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr., Pool. The men?s team improved to 4-0 in dual meets on the season with a 147-86 win over St. John?s, while the women?s team moved to 5-0 with a 138-82 victory over the Red Storm.
Both teams set pool records in the 400y-medley relay. The women?s team of Elizabeth Risotto (Setauket, N.Y.), Lauren Bulkeley (Virginia Beach, Va.), Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.) and Anne Dettloff (Barrington, Ill.) were victorious in 4:01.54. On the men?s side, the team of Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass.), Billy Brown (Fullerton, Calif.), Carlos Ramos (San Juan, P.R.) and Henry Turner (Melrose, Mass.) won in 3:30.02. On the women?s side, Dettloff won the 200y-free (1:56.66), Andrea Spencer (Wilmington, Del.) posted victory in the 200y-IM (2:12.39), Kazanjian won the 100y-free (54.96) and Risotto won the 200y-back (2:08.17). Lia Lansky (Memphis, Tenn.) won the 200y-fly in 2:11.00. In women?s diving, Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.) won the three-meter with a score of 254.50. For the men, Arsenault picked up two victories, winning the 200y-free (1:44.57) and the 100y-free (47.54). Ramos won the 50y-free (21.79, and Brown won the 200y-breast (2:08.68). Tommy Keane (Melrose, Mass.) was victorious in the 500y-free (no time available). In diving, Ed Hefferon (Stratford, Conn.) won both the one-meter and three-meter events with scores of 295.28 and 255.30, respectively.
The men?s swimming and diving team will return to action tomorrow, Sunday, at 1:00 p.m. when they host Columbia at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr., Pool. The women?s team will be off until December 3-4 when the Minutewomen travel to Syracuse, N.Y., for the Syracuse Invitational.
