UMass Sweeps Dartmouth, Temple To Close Regular Season

LAST WEEK?S ACTION: UMass closed out the regular season with wins over Dartmouth and Northeastern to extend its season-high winning streak to seven games. Against the Big Green, the Minutewomen struck with two early goals and then stifled the Dartmouth offense for the win. Against Northeastern, UMass scored goals in each half and held the Huskies without a shot in the second half to take a 2-0 shutout win. Sophomore Anke Bruemmer scored the game-winner in both contests to mark her fifth and sixth game-winning goals this season.
THE WEEK AHEAD: UMass prepares to defend their Atlantic 10 Tournament title this weekend. The top-seeded Minutewomen will face No. 4 seed and tournament host St. Joseph?s on Friday, while No. 2 seed Temple squares off against No. 3 seed Rhode Island. The winner of the A-10 Tournament will host a NCAA Tournament Play-In game on Tuesday, Nov. 9 vs. the champion of the NorPac Conference.
BRUEMMER TAKES CONFERENCE SCORING TITLE: Sophomore Anke Bruemmer earned her second consecutive Atlantic 10 scoring title with her two goals this week. Bruemmer now has 32 points on the season (15g, 2a), surpassing her freshman year total of 26 points (12g, 2a).
ABBOTT CONTINUES STRONG PLAY: After a career high two goals vs. Temple last Sunday in UMass? A-10 title clinching win, sophomore forward Lindsay Abbott (Northampton, Mass.) continued her strong play this week. Abbott scored UMass? first goal in its 2-1 win over Dartmouth College on Tuesday, giving her three goals in a two-game span.
ROBINSON ON CAREER ASSISTS CHART: With her assist vs. Dartmouth, junior back Patty Robinson (Norwood, Mass.) has moved into a tie for third place on the UMass career assists chart with 29 with former teammate Vicky Browne. Next up is Holly Hockenbrock, who posted 40 assists between 1990 and 1993. Robinson is also seventh on the UMass single season assist chart with her 15 this season, just one behind Julie McHugh and Vicky Browne who are tied for fifth place.
SENIORS CONTRIBUTE ON SENIOR DAY: Seniors played a big part in UMass? 3-0 win over Temple on Senior Day. Goaltender Michelle Crooks (Feasterville, Pa.) started the game in goal, and made two saves and allowed no goals in one half of action, earning the win and a shared shutout. Chrissy Millbauer (Easton, Conn.) set up Lindsay Abbott?s first goal that gave UMass a 2-0 lead.
HEAD COACH PATTY SHEA: Patty Shea is in her third season as head coach of the Minutewomen. Posting a 38-26 record in her time at UMass, including a pair of NCAA appearance and Atlantic 10 Championships, she had previously served as an assistant coach at Harvard and Iowa and was a member of the 1988 and 1996 U.S. Olympic teams. Shea graduated from UMass in 1984 where she was a two-time, first-team All-American goalie for Pam Hixon.
