WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - Marcel Shipp ran for 210 yards and three second-half touchdowns Saturday to lead Massachusetts to a 25-16 victory over William & Mary.
The Minutemen (7-3, 6-1 Atlantic 10) had 484 yards of total offense compared to 190 for the Tribe (5-5, 4-3), but Massachusetts led only 11-10 after three quarters.
Shipp scored on a 3-yard run with 14 minutes left in the game to put Massachusetts up 18-10. The Tribe answered with a 5-yard TD run by Marcus Howard, but a 2-yard TD run by Shipp with 2:27 left sealed Massachusetts' victory.
Massachusetts can tie James Madison for the conference title with a victory over Connecticut next Saturday, but James Madison still would get the A10's automatic bid to the playoffs under the tiebreaker rules.
