Lance K. Overby is in his 20th year with UMass Athletics as an academic counselor with academic services. He works with the women's soccer, rowing, tennis, baseball and men’s track and cross country. Overby is responsible for the coordination of all academic success facilities, academic achievement, counseling and planning programs for career achievement.
Prior to his tenure assisting student-athletes in their academic pursuits, Overby spent the 2002 season as an assistant wide receiver’s coach at Northeastern, helping the Huskies to an overall record of 10-3 and a share of the Atlantic 10 Championship. During the 2001 season, he served as a Restricted Earnings Coach at St. Francis (Pennsylvania) while completing his master’s degree in educational leadership.
Overby is a 2000 graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree in educational studies. He lettered for four seasons as a defensive back with the UMass football team and totaled 152 career tackles, three interceptions, five sacks and 13 pass breakups during his collegiate career. Overby is a member of the UMass Football 1998 NCAA Division I-AA National Championship Team and also helped the program to an Atlantic 10 Conference Championship in 1999. Overby also was the co-leader of Athletes In Action during his time on campus.
