Jake Gelnovatch was hired as a Learning Specialist joining the UMass Academic Success staff in the Spring of 2024. Gelnovatch brings over four years of ACC collegiate athletics experience and two years of professional experience to the role.
Prior to joining UMass, Gelnovatch served as a Learning Specialist at Florida State University. While at FSU, Gelnovatch worked closely with football, swimming/diving, and track and field. He actively facilitated academic skill building for student-athletes while assist with the student-athlete academic services mentoring program.
Before FSU, Gelnovatch served in a postgraduate internship role at University of Virginia. Working with multiple programs, Gelnovatch structured academic meetings with wrestling student-athletes in the mentoring program and conducted research for CRLA certifications and first year student-athlete readiness assessments. He also supported resume and LinkedIn workshops for soccer, football, and wrestling student-athletes.
Prior to UVA, Gelnovatch served as an Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at the University of Rhode Island. In addition to his coaching and scouting responsibilities, Gelnovatch also advised student-athletes on major/curriculum choices and facilitated GPA and academic grade reports in this role.
A member of the University Louisville men’s soccer team from 2016 through 2020, Gelnovatch earned earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration in 2020. He continued in his education, earning a Master of Arts in Higher Educations from Louisville in 2021. Gelnovatch also holds a Nutrition and Healthy Living Certificate from Cornell which he received in 2023.
