University of Massachusetts head rowing coach Eric Carcich announced the addition of assistant coach Lauren Schall to his staff in Fall 2019.

Schall returns to the collegiate coaching realm after spending 2018-19 in her home state of New York with the Saratoga Rowing Association. While there, she worked with novice and beginner eighth- and ninth-grade rowers on technical foundation, structure and routine. Schall’s crews recorded multiple wins at the Head of the Fish Regatta and tabbed fifth at the 2019 SRAA National Championships.

After graduating from Pittsburgh in 2015, she remained on campus for three years coaching the Pitt novice and varsity squads. Various boats collected five medals at the Dad Vail Regatta and the ACRA Championships. The 2017 ACRA Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year doubled the size of Pitt’s women’s program over two years and spearheaded initiatives in practice leading to improved efficiency on the water.

Simultaneously, Schall led all aspects of the high school girls’ program with Steel City Rowing Club in 2016-17. She also had a stint as varsity boys’ assistant coach (2016-17) at Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh.

She captained Pitt’s varsity squad from 2013-15 and raced its Women’s 2- to gold at the 2015 ACRA Championships. She went on to win five gold medals at USRowing Nationals and won the Championship 8+ at the 2019 Canadian Henley. Schall previously took silver in the Senior 4- at the 2015 iteration of that regatta.

Schall, a native of State College, Pennsylvania, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in nutrition and dietetics from Pitt.
