AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts athletic director Thorr Bjorn has announced that the induction ceremony for the the UMass Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2003 will take place on Friday, January 23, 2004. This special event will take place in the Campus Center Auditorium, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will take place at 7:00 p.m., to be immediately followed by the induction ceremony. The Class of 2003 will also be honored during halftime of the UMass-Temple men's basketball game at the Mullins Center on Saturday, January 24, 2004.

The UMass Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2003 includes six individuals: Edward Larkin, Jr. (baseball and basketball, class of 1959), William MacConnell (skiing coach, class of 1943), Tammy Marshall (gymnastics, class of 1993), Edward McAleney (football and track, class of 1976), Laura O'Neil (field hockey and lacrosse, class of 1981) and Granville Pruyne (soccer and track, class of 1933).

With the addition of these six individuals, the UMass Athletic Hall of Fame now houses 68 members who left everlasting marks on UMass athletics. Founded in 1969 to recognize excellence in athletic achievement, the Hall of Fame was dormant from 1982-1996, when it received new life as a result of the generosity of George "Trigger" Burke, a former UMass basketball standout and current Hall of Fame member. The Hall is located on the third floor of the Mullins Center and is open to the general public.

Cost to attend the indution ceremony on January 23 is $35.00 per person. Anyone interested in attending should contact Jason Germain in the UMass Athletic Development Office at (413) 577-2067.
