Kole Ayi and Anke Bruemmer Named WHMP/UMass Co-Athletes of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Junior linebacker Kole Ayi (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore field hockey back Anke Bruemmer (Koeln, Germany) have been named the WHMP/UMass Co-Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 31. The awards were presented today at the weekly sports luncheon.
Ayi led UMass in tackles for the seventh time in the season with 17, including 11 unassisted tackles, as UMass downed Rhode Island 31-9 on Saturday afternoon. It was also Ayi?s seventh game this season in which he reached double digits in tackles. He was named the Atlantic 10 Conference?s Defensive Player of the Week for his performance. Ayi leads the team and the conference in both total tackles with 104, and in unassisted tackles with 76. Ayi and the Minutemen will return to action this Saturday at 1:00 p.m., when they travel to Richmond.
Bruemmer was also the Atlantic 10?s Player of the Week in field hockey. She scored both game-winning goals as the Minutewomen downed #18 Dartmouth 2-1 and won at Northeastern by a 2-0 score. She was also part of the UMass defense which limited its opposition to just one goal on the week. Bruemmer leads the Atlantic 10 in goals with 15, and in total points with 32. Bruemmer and the Minutewomen return to action on Friday at 1:00 p.m., when they take on St. Joseph?s in the first round of the 1999 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship in Philadelphia.
