AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts senior swimmer Justin Houck (Wyomissing, Pa.) and junior skier Beau Gibson (Oakland, Md.) were named co-Dinn Brothers/UMass Athletes of the Week, announced by the UMass Sports Luncheon Committee this afternoon.

Houck won two events against Fordham on Feb. 2, placing first in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:59.18) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.31). The senior's efforts helped capture a 179-112 victory over the Rams. Houck, who is the current UMass record holder in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:49.10, will compete in his last home meet at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool on Feb. 8 against Boston College.

Gibson finished first in both the giant slalom and slalom events at the Brown Carnival held at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, N.H., Feb. 1-2. The junior captain posted times of 54.75 and 1:13.75, respectively, almost a full second ahead of the runner-up in both events. Gibson's strong skiing was largely responsible for the team's overall victory in the giant slalom and second-place overall finish in the slalom. His two wins were his second and third of the season, and the fourth and fifth time he has finished in the top two, out of six total races. Up next for the ski team is the Boston College Carnival at Mount Ascutney in Brownsville, Vt. Feb. 8-9.
