MEN'S BASKETBALL: Freeman brings finesse
Springfield Republican / By Ron Chimelis
AMHERST, Mass. - Rashaun Freeman came to the University of Massachusetts men's basketball program with a reputation as a muscleman, able to dominate the interior with sheer ferocity and brawn. That description hasn't been wrong, but it has been incomplete. Eight games into his college career, the 6-foot-8, 255-pound power forward is displaying not only strength but finesse, leading to suggestions he may already be the best UMass low-post player since Tyrone Weeks. . .

ICE HOCKEY: UMass ties UNH
Springfield Republican / By Dick Baker
AMHERST, Mass. - The game appeared all but over, as soundly outplayed New Hampshire had little left. MEN'S BASKETBALL: Minutemen seem to be shorthanded

For at least tonight's men's basketball game against Central Connecticut State, the University of Massachusetts will try to do more with less. The Minutemen will be without freshman guard Artie Bowers, leaving only eight scholarship players available for the game at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Just because it's no longer called the Commonwealth Classic doesn't mean this game is common. It's still the University of Massachusetts against Boston College, although at times, today's men's basketball game at Conte Forum may look more like a Nike camp all-star game than a college contest. . .
