Carpenter, Mrázová and McKenzie Earn MAC Weekly Awards

AMHERST, Mass. – Three members of the University of Massachusetts field hockey team received MAC weekly awards on Tuesday, with Megan Carpenter garnering Defensive Player of the Week, Rozárie Mrázová earning Goalkeeper of the Week and Niamh McKenzie receiving Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors. The honors came after helping the Minutewomen defeat reigning Final Four team Havard last season, who was ranked No. 3 nationally, and defending America East regular season and tournament champion New Hampshire.
An anchor of the back line that allowed just seven shots on goal for the week over two games. On Friday at No. 3 Harvard, the Minutewomen allowed just three shots on goal and just one over the game's final 52:47. The Crimson took a 1-0 lead at the 7:13 mark and would have just one shot on goal the rest of the way. On Sunday against New Hampshire, UMass didn't allow a single shot (never mind shot on goal) until 15 seconds left in the third quarter, allowing just four shots (all on goal) for the game. For the season, the Minutewomen have more goals (27) than they've allowed shots on goal (22) on the season. Carpenter also had three assists over the weekend, assisting the game-tying goal against Harvard in the third quarter then two more on Sunday against New Hampshire.
Mrázová was sensational between the pipes, stopping six of seven shots her way over a 2-0 weekend. On Friday at Harvard, she made two saves, including a big stop early in the first quarter and a save in the fourth to hold the Crimson to just one goal. Mrázová went on to make a season-high four saves against New Hampshire Sunday to finish off her first shutout as a Minutewoman. For the season, she owns a 1.00 goals against average and 70.6 save percentage.
McKenzie had a tremendous weekend, having a hand in four goals in UMass' 2-0 weekend. In Friday's win at Harvard, McKenzie made a strong move near the top of the circle to give herself some space, as she found Jenna Herbster for what proved to be the game-winning goal in the third quarter. UMass handed Harvard its first loss against a nonconference opponent (regular season or postseason) since 2024 when the Minutewomen defeated the Crimson in the NCAA Tournament National Quarterfinals. McKenzie then had two goals and an assist for a career high five points in Sunday's 6-0 win against New Hampshire. She had a goal in the first quarter, assist in the third and goal in the fourth. Now has two multi-goal games in her first six contests at UMass. McKenzie stands second on the team in goals (5) and points (14) on the season.
The Minutewomen moved up to No. 6 in the latest NFHCA Poll and will return home on Friday to host Ohio in their home opener. Gametime is set for 11 a.m. at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex.
