AMHERST, Mass. - Two student-athletes earned this week's UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by UMassFive College Credit Union. Neva Eisenga from field hockey and Liam Hickey from men's swimming and diving were recognized.
There will be no luncheon this week but the athletes will be recognized next week.
Neva Eisenga | Senior | Defense / Midfield | Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, The Netherlands / Erasmiaans Gymnasium
Eisenga made an impact on both ends of the field in the Minutewomen's 3-0 victory over James Madison on Friday. She Led the offense with a goal and an assist, both coming off penalty corners in the fourth quarter to provide crucial insurance. Eisenga helped anchor a defensive effort that limited the Dukes to just five shots, marking just the fourth time this season and the first time by a MAC opponent that James Madison was shut out. The Minutewomen held the Dukes without a shot until the 37:52 mark in the third quarter. On the season, Eisenga ranks fourth on the team in goals (9) and points (20).
Liam Hickey | Sophomore | Back/Fly | Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary School
Hickey helped lead the Minutemen to a 159-138 victory over Boston University on Saturday, earning three first-place finishes and one second-place finish. He captured individual gold in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.06 and the 200 backstroke in 1:51.05. Hickey anchored the 200 medley relay team to a second-place finish with a time of 1:32.10, recording a split of 20.32. He also contributed to a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, which touched the wall in 3:05.56, with Hickey recording a split of 46.69.
