2026 Season Preview: Massachusetts Baseball

The Minutemen begin the 2026 season with a three-game series against Mount St. Mary’s on Friday.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts baseball returns to the diamond and opens the 2026 season with a three-game series against Mount St. Mary's at E.T. Straw Family Stadium in Emmitsburg, Maryland. First pitch is set for Friday, February 20, at 1 p.m., with a doubleheader slated for Saturday, February 21 starting at 11 a.m. Game three of the series will begin shortly after game two on Saturday.
The upcoming season marks the 143rd season for the program, with UMass holding an overall record of 1706-1766-21, and the first season under the leadership of Brandon Shileikis and Max Weir. It also marks the first year in the Mid-American Conference for the Minutemen.
The Squad
Massachusetts' 2026 roster is composed of a solid mix of returners and newcomers. Twenty members of the team are back from the 2025 campaign, while 14 players join for their first season in Amherst.
The team welcomes seven freshmen in Dean Gobeil, Tommy Hennessey, Lorcan Lee, Randen May, Brayden Mercier, Sam Perry and Jackson Richard, while adding seven transfers in Will Briggs, Ty Fox, Kai Giro, Michael Goodman, Jack Nieringhaus, Gavin Sitarz and Brandon Wingenroth.
Graduate student Jack Beverly and junior Callen Powers serve as the 2026 team captains.
The 2025 Season
UMass finished the 2025 season with an overall record of 14-34-1, including a 7-23 mark in conference play.
Beverly earned Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference honors, while being named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. Redshirt-junior Marc Willi also landed on the CSC Academic All-District Team.
2026 Season Schedule
After the season opening series, UMass will face Siena for a neutral site series at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland. From there, the Minutemen begin MAC play in Toledo, Ohio, for a three-game series against Toledo (March 6-8), before facing Holy Cross on March 10 for UMass' home opener.
Massachusetts returns to MACtion with a road test at Akron (March 13-15) and continues on the road with a midweek game against Army on March 17. UMass sets for its home conference opener against Kent State on March 20-22. The Minutemen travel to Albany, New York, for a matchup with UAlbany on March 24, before visiting league foe Western Michigan on March 27-29.
UMass prepares a four-game home stretch, as the team welcomes Quinnipiac (March 31) and Northern Illinois (April 3-5) to Earl Lorden Field. The Minutemen then take on Boston College on April 7 for the Opening Round of the Beanpot in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, with the Beanpot Final/Consolation game set for April 14. Massachusetts heads to Eastern Michigan for a three-game conference series on April 10-12.
MAC Championships
The 2026 MAC Baseball Championships will take place at Crushers Stadium in Avon, Ohio, on Wednesday, May 20 through Sunday, May 24.
