Massachusetts Swimming & Diving Concludes Time At Colgate Invite

The Minutemen finished second at the two-day event, while the Minutewomen sat in third.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team wrapped up its time at the Colgate Invite, hosted by Colgate, at Lineberry Natatorium on Saturday.
 
The Minutemen totaled 756.5 points to take second behind Niagara (818). Le Moyne College (604) and Colgate (537.5) followed in third and fourth, respectively.  
 
The Minutewomen totaled 586 points in the two-day event to sit in third behind Colgate (1,023.5) and Niagara (790). The women's team sat ahead of Le Moyne (369.5) in fourth.
 
Women's Swimming & Diving
 
Junior Courtney Tedesco claimed the gold in the 100 freestyle to begin individual events, swimming a time of 53.23. Senior Lindsay Burbage placed eighth in the event with a time of 54.32.
 
In the 200 backstroke, senior Beren Cakiroglu claimed third with a time of 2:08.74, while junior Maria Grishaeva finished fourth with a time of 2:09.14.  Grishaeva then collected the silver medal in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.17, followed by Burbage in fourth with a time of 2:26.57.
 
Junior Elizabeth Lahmann swam a time of 5:26.77 in the 500 freestyle to take ninth place. Freshman Mackenzie Gibbons secured the bronze in her 100 butterfly debut, finishing with a time of 59.58. Fellow classmate Gabby Bulatewicz placed seventh with a time of 1:01.56 in the event.
 
The 200 individual medley saw junior Hannah Schoenauer swim a time of 2:13.68 to claim fifth. Tedesco earned seventh place in the event with a time of 2:14.53.
 
In the relays, the 400 freestyle relay team of Gibbons, junior Karinne Everly, Tedesco and Cakiroglu finished third with a combined time of 3:35.36.
 
Men's Swimming & Diving
 
Sophomore Macek Vandermolen kicked off the individual events with a fourth-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.43, as senior Alonso Montori took sixth with a time of 47.75.
 
Sophomore Liam Hickey grabbed the gold medal in the 200 backstroke, swimming a time of 1:51.92. Junior Chase Keeler (1:53.51) and sophomore Chase Dai (1:57.02) touched the wall in fourth and sixth, respectively, in the event.
 
In the 200 breaststroke, sophomore Hudson Bawduniak picked up the bronze with a time of 2:10.13. Sophomores Sota Kawahata (4:50.80) and Miles Smyczek (4:52.17) finished second and third, respectively, while fellow classmate Eli Panachyda took fifth with a time of 4:54.61.
 
Keeler was fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.06, with Vandermolen (52.84) placing ninth. Montori also took 10th with a time of 52.90. Junior Nate Derby grabbed the gold medal in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:55.95, while Hickey secured the bronze with a time of 1:57.15. Dai finished fourth with a time of 1:58.55 in the event.
 
The 400 freestyle relay team of junior Liam Rayson, Bawduniak, Montori and Vandermolen swam for a time of 3:06.88 to claim first place.
 
Next Up
The Massachusetts men's and women's swimming and diving team will take a week out of the pool, before heading to hosting Yale on Saturday, October 24, for a scrimmage at Joseph R. Rogers Jr., Pool. Diving events start at 11 a.m., with swimming events beginning at 1 p.m.
 
 
 
DAY ONE
 
Swimming & Diving Completes Day One At Colgate Invitational
Day two of the Colgate Invite is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, in Hamilton, N.Y.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team completed day one of competition at the Colgate Invitational, hosted by Colgate, at the Lineberry Natatorium on Friday evening.
 
Women's Swimming & Diving
 
Senior Olga Stoura started off the individual events for the Minutewomen with a sixth-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 18:50.74.
 
Junior Maria Grishaeva grabbed the bronze medal in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:40.77. Fellow classmate Karinne Everly took fifth in the event with a time of 4:45.46.
 
The 200 freestyle saw junior Elizabeth Lahmann swim into fourth with a time of 1:58.02. Junior Courtney Tedesco swam into fifth-place with a time of 1:00.09 in the 100 backstroke, with freshman Mackenzie Gibbons following in sixth with a time of 1:00.55.
 
In the 100 breaststroke, senior Lindsay Burbage collected the silver with a time of 1:05.72. Gibbons earned a time of 2:15.66 in the 200 butterfly to take fourth.
 
Tedesco finished second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.28.
 
The 400 medley relay team of Grishaeva, Burbage, Tedesco and freshman Kaitlyn Adams combined for a time of 3:58.84 to secure third place.  
 
Men's Swimming & Diving
 
Sophomore Miles Smyczek kicked off the day one for the Minutemen with a bronze medal in the 1,650 freestyle, swimming a personal-best time of 16:45.06. Senior Jude Boukarroum followed in fourth (16:51.93) and sophomore Sota Kawahata in fifth (16:58.56.  
 
The Minutemen earned the first and second spot on the podium in the 400 individual medley. Junior Chase Keeler sat atop the podium with a time of 4:12.56, while sophomore Chase Dai finished second with a time of 4:19.53.
 
In the 200 freestyle, junior Liam Rayson tied for third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:45.35, as senior Alonso Montori placed sixth with a time of 1:46.63. Sophomore Liam Hickey claimed the gold in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.88,  while junior Zach Szabo placed fourth with a time of 52.47.
 
The 100 breaststroke saw sophomore Hudson Bawduniak touch the wall second with a time of 56.06. Sophomores Eli Panachyda (58.04) and Bode Groh (58.58), junior Nate Derby (58.92) and Dai (59.99) all completed the event in fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
 
Senior Aydin Erkan took home the bronze in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:57.84. Sophomore Macek Vandermolen placed fourth with a time of 21.55, as freshman Wyatt Sumner took sixth with a time of 21.75.
 
The 400 medley relay team of Hickey, Derby, Bawduniak and Vandermolen combined for a time of 3:25.19 to take second, while the team consisting of Szabo, Panachyda, Erkan and Montori swam a time of 3:27.43 to finish in third.
