Massachusetts faced Buffalo once previously in program history.
The 19th-ranked Minutemen posted a 96-67 win on February 18, 1993, in Buffalo, New York.
A month later, John calipari led that UMass team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Last Time out

Massachusetts gritted out an 84-82 victory over Toledo on Tuesday evening at the Mullins Center to improve to 3-5 in the MAC.
Graduate student Leonardo Bettiol led the way for the Mintuemen with 20 points and nine rebounds.
Jayden Ndjigue and Daniel Hankins-Sanford both collected double-doubles on the night. Both recorded 12 points against the Rockets with Ndjigue grabbing 10 rebounds and Hankins-Sanford coming down with 11.
Marcus Banks Jr., added 15 points to the total, three boards and a steal, as Danny Carbuccia led with a team-high nine assists.

Scouting the Bulls

Buffalo enters Friday game coming off an 82-63 loss to the visiting Akron Zips at Alumni Arena on Tuesday evening.
Bulls Head Coach George Halcovage III is in his third season at Buffalo, accumulating a 26-55 (9-34 MAC) overall record during his time in Buffalo, New York.
Daniel Freitag leads the team in points, averaging 20.4 per game, sitting at the top of the rankings in the MAC. Ryan Sabol averages 17.2 points per game, ranking seventh in the league.
Freitag and Noah Batchelor both average 4.8 rebounds per game to lead the Bulls.
The Bulls are 13-6 overall and 3-4 in the MAC.

Year Four Under Coach Martin

Massachusetts basketball enters its fourth season under head coach Frank Martin in 2025-26.
Martin and the Minutemen finished the 2024-25 season with 12 wins, including seven in conference play. Under Martin's tutelage guard Rahsool Diggins had a breakout senior season, averaging a team-high 16.8 points on his way to earning All-Atlantic 10 Third Team honors.
In 2023-24 Martin led the Minutemen to their best season since 2014, finishing with a 20-11 overall record and securing a top-four seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
Coach Martin started his time in Amherst by leading the Minutemen to their best record under a first-year head coach since 1996 and the Myrtle Beach Invitational title during the 2022-23 campaign.
Martin holds a 344-255 (.575) collegiate coaching mark, picking up 171 of his wins in 10 seasons at South Carolina while recording 117 wins in five seasons at Kansas State.
Head coach Frank Martin picked up his 300th collegiate coaching win on Jan. 25, 2023 with a 85-76 win over Richmond.

TIP-OFF TIDBITS

UMass has held opponents to a 29.0 shooting percentage from three, ranking first in the conference and 21st in the country.
UMass' +6.0 rebounding margin and 38.10 rebounds per game both rank second in the MAC.
Massachusetts ranks third in offensive rebounds per game (12.35).
The Minutemen rank third in the MAC and 27th nationally by averaging 17.8 assists per game.

Danny Carbuccia's 6.0 assists per game rank second in the MAC and 30th in the country, while his 3.22 assist/turnover ratio is third in the league and 30th in the country.
Carbuccia's 3.22 mark ranks second in the country among freshmen, trailing only Ethan Elliott of Northern Kentucky (3.59).
Carbuccia's 4.15 assist to turnover ratio in MAC games also ranks first, with Buffalo's Daniel Freitag ranking second (3.75).
Hankins-Sanford (7) and Bettiol (3) each have multiple double-doubles this season.
Hankins-Sanford's seven double-doubles are the second most in the MAC.
In MAC games, Parker ranks second in the league with a .944 free throw percentage (17-for-18 in eight games).
