AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has added 6-2, 205-pound forward Matthew Wilde to its roster for the 2025-26 season, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Thursday. The 2024-25 Hobey Baker Award nominee, Atlantic Hockey Forward of the Year finalist and AHA First Team All-Conference selection comes to UMass after two seasons at RIT. He joins forwards Mikey DeAngelo and Owen Mehlenbacher as the third and final transfer addition for the Minutemen this offseason.

"Matthew spent the last two years at RIT, where he proved to be a dangerous goal scorer and proven offensive threat in college hockey," said Carvel. "Matty has great size and a great offensive skill set. As his game continues to develop, he should become a very effective power forward in Hockey East, a player that can score around the net or from a distance with his excellent shooting ability. More importantly, he is a high character young man who plays with a chip on his shoulder and comes to UMass ready to prove himself, and prepare himself, to be a professional hockey player. We are very excited to bring Matty into our culture."

Wilde put up back-to-back 30+ point seasons at RIT, totaling 67 points on 37 goals and 30 assists in 67 games over the two-year span. The Mississauga, Ontario native also contributed 12 power-play goals and five game winners for the Tigers. He finished the 2024-25 regular season first in Atlantic Hockey with 0.69 goals per-game and second in the league with 1.23 points per-game and tied for 12th nationally and second in the AHA with 18 goals. After missing the first eight games of the 2024-25 campaign, Wilde registered at least one point in 19 of 27 games the remainder of the season to finish second on the squad with 32 points and tied for first with nine multi-point games.

As a freshman in 2023-24, Wilde finished fifth for RIT with 35 points, tied for the most by a Tiger first-year in D1-era history. He ranked second on the squad with 19 goals, the most by a Tiger first-year in D1-era history, and tied for fifth nationally among first year players in goals, tied for 10th in points.  The February Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month finished the season with a point in a team-best 11-straight games, totaling 10 goals and five assists in that span.
Prior to playing college hockey, Wilde was a member of the Toronto Junior Canadiens of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) from 2020-2023 and posted 195 career points on 93 goals and 102 assists over 130 contests. During the 2022-23 season he was third in the OJHL and broke his own franchise record with 42 goals and added 44 assists to finish fourth overall with 86 points in 52 games and helped the Jr. Canadiens post a 45-5-2 record while winning their second straight Brant Snow Memorial Trophy. The two-time OJHL All-Star and second-team honoree and 2023 OJHL All-Star Game MVP ended the 2021-22 season fourth in the league with 81 points (39g, 42a).
