Two Garner UMass Student-Athlete Of The Week Accolades

Megan Olbrys and Maria Grishaeva earned the weekly honor.
AMHERST, Mass. – Senior Megan Olbrys of the women's basketball team and sophomore Maria Grishaeva of the women's swimming and diving team tabbed the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week award, sponsored by UMassFive College Credit Union. Both student-athletes will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday, December 3, at noon in the Berkshire Room of the Berkshire Dining Commons.
Olbrys led the Minutewomen to a pair of wins last week, helping Massachusetts improve to 5-0 on the season. In the win over UMass Lowell, she finished with an efficient 10 points, three assists, three assists and went 4-of-5 from the field in just 13 minutes.
Then against ACC foe Boston College, Olbrys put up a career-high 24 points and had 12 rebounds for the double double, while adding and assist and a steal. She as 8-of-15 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line in 36 minutes.
At 5-0, Olbrys, who has started 37 consecutive games since joining the Minutewomen before last season, has helped UMass to its best start since opening the 2021-22 season with a 7-0 record.
Grishaeva secured three medals across the three-day Terrier Invite. She placed second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:01.39, marking the second fastest time all-time. She grabbed the gold in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:18.75, posting the second-best time in program history. Grishaeva picked up her second gold of the weekend, swimming a time of 2:15.15 in the 200 breaststroke, the fourth-best mark all-time. The sophomore also placed 11th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.57
Grishaeva aided the 400 medley relay team to a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:44.97 as the leadoff.
