Diggins Earns Pair Of National Player Of The Week Honors

AMHERST, MASS -- Senior guard Rahsool Diggins earned Lute Olson and Oscar Robertson National Player of The Week honors, both organizations announced this week. Diggins also received Atlantic 10 Co-Player of The Week recognition, the first selection of his career. The three honors mark the first career weekly awards for Diggins during his three seasons in Amherst.
The honor come after a week which saw Diggins average 31.5 points over back-to-back league wins for the Minutemen. The reigning A-10 Co-Most Improved Player recipient made history scoring a program record 46 points in a triple overtime win over Fordham. The 46-point performance ties for the eighth best single-game total in Atlantic 10 history and it marked the most points by a visiting player at Rose Hill Gymnasium, surpassing all-time UMass great Julius Erving's 37-point performance on January 21, 1970. The performance tied for the most points ever scored at the facility, tying Kenny Charles just one day shy of Rose Hill Gym's 100 anniversary mark.
Diggins followed the record breaking performance with 17 points and four rebounds in a key 22-point victory over La Salle to push the Minutemen to 3-3 in conference play. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native has now scored in double figures in eight consecutive games dating back to Dec. 18 vs. Northeastern.
The Minutemen return to action this week as they host George Washington on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Mullins Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with live updates and links available at umassathletics.com or @UMassMBB on X (Twitter).
