Massachusetts Track & Field Student-Athletes Earn All-Rookie, All-Academic Team Honors From A-10

AMHERST, Mass. - Three members of the University of Massachusetts track and field program earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie honors, while two individuals earned spots on the All-Academic Teams, the league announced on Tuesday. Madelyn Bishop was the solo all-rookie honoree for the women while Elijah Wolinski and Colin Kirn were named for the men. Rebecca Hartman earned her second All-Academic team nod of the year on the women's side while Robert Carew was selected to the All-Academic men's squad.

Bishop becomes the 14th Minutewoman to be named to the Atlantic 10 Outdoor All-Rookie Team and first since teammates Megan Frazee, Marielsa McBride, and Annika Zuschlag did so in 2023. Bishop gets the honor in the shot put as the Rockford, Illinois native led all freshmen in the shot put with her personal best throw of 43' 3.75" at the UMass Flagship Opener on April 7. At the Atlantic 10 Championship, Bishop came in 11th in the shot put with a mark of 41' 3.75".
Wolinski earned All-Rookie honors in the decathlon with his career best score of 6186 at the Atlantic 10 Championship. Wolinski earned the Minutemen six points with a third place finish to take home bronze. During the decathlon, Wolinski set personal best marks in six events, including a 157' 6" javelin throw which led the field.

Kirn earned All-Rookie honors for the second time this season. After being named to the team in the indoor, the freshman has earned the honor in the outdoor 800m as well. The Andover, Massachusetts native placed ninth at the Atlantic 10 Championship (5/4) with a personal best time of 1:53.11 to lead all freshmen in the conference.
Carew collected two medals at the A-10 Championship this spring, taking silver in the 10,000 meter run (29:48.00) and bronze in the 5,000 meter run (14:16.92), posting personal bests in both events. The kinesiology major then won a New England title in the 10K. His 10K time from the A-10 meet put him second all-time in the UMass record book, as well.

Hartman earned a bronze medal in the 10,000 meter run at the Atlantic 10 Championships and posted the No. 2 time in program history in the event this season, 34:58.41 at the Raleigh Relays. The PHD student in biochemistry & molecular biology also scored in the 5,000 meter run at the New England Championships, taking sixth.
