Defenseman Finn Loftus Joins Incoming Freshman Class For Massachusetts Hockey

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts will welcome 6-1, 179-pound left-shot defenseman Finn Loftus to the roster for the 2024-25 season, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Monday. A native of Blaine, Minnesota, Loftus joins James Norton as the second member of the Minutemen's Class of 2028.
"Finn is a defenseman that defends under control, makes a good first pass and has a high hockey IQ," said Carvel. "He was an Assistant Captain for his USHL team this past season and was a big part of the team's success in reaching the Western Conference Finals. Finn possesses great leadership qualities that will benefit him and his teammates from day one."
In his two seasons in the United States Hockey League (USHL), Loftus played in 125 regular season games for the Sioux City Musketeers, putting up 57 points on 12 goals and 45 assists. He had three points (1g, 2a) over 10 postseason contests for the Musketeers as well.
Prior to the USHL, Loftus played parts of four years for Blaine High in Minnesota, appearing in 90 games while scoring 85 points (18g, 67a).
