UMass claims its third consecutive Atlantic 10 win; improving to 3-1 in the conference
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts claimed its third consecutive Atlantic 10 Conference victory in a 4-1 match over Fordham on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Center.
After a brief rain delay, moving the match from outdoors to indoors, doubles play resumed. Here, the Minutewomen clinched the doubles point with victories on courts No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul bested Fordham's Raffaela Alhach and Anlin Xie, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Soon after, Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye posted a 6-3 win on court No. 2, defeating Xiaowei Hu and Eleni Fasoula of Fordham.
In singles play, Hack and Jonglertrakul's success continued on their respective courts. On court No. 2, Jonglertrakul defeated Hu of Fordham 6-2, 6-1, while Hack conquered the Rams' Alhach, 6-2, 6-0 at No.1 singles. On court No. 3, Ella Faessler accomplished a come-from-behind victory over Fasoula of Fordham, 4-6, 7-6, (2) 6-3. The lone Rams victory came from No. 4 singles, where Xie bested Mariana Campino in three sets, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. The matches of Renata Farima and Polina Akimova went unfinished on courts No. 5 and No. 6. Farima was deadlocked 4-4 against Fordham's Xintong Zhou, whereas Akimova was up 6-0, 0-1 atop Franny Shea of the Rams.
Massachusetts concludes the regular season with a match against Rhode Island in Amherst on Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
