Swimming And Diving Finish Day One Of A-10 Championships

The Minutewomen sit in fourth place, while the Minutemen are in second after the first day of competition.
HAMPTON, Va. – University of Massachusetts swimming and diving completed day one of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the Hampton Aquaplex on Wednesday evening. The Minutewomen currently sit in fourth with 60 points, while the Minutemen hold second with 91 points.
UMass saw two medals on the day in the women's 200 medley relay and the men's one-meter dive. Senior Megan Mitchell, freshman Lindsay Burbage, fifth-year student Summer Pierce and senior Maggie Desmond picked up the bronze medal with a school record time of 1:40.06 in the 200 medley relay, while sophomore Andrew Bell claimed the gold in the one-meter with a six-dive total of 381.75.
Women's Swimming & Diving
Mitchell, Burbage, Pierce and Desmond secured a third-place finish with their combined time of 1:40.06 in the 200 medley relay to start off the event finals. The team broke a previous record of 1:40.54 held by Mitchell, Desmond, Pierce and Caroline Mahoney last season. Mitchell led off the relay with a personal-best time of 25.63 in the 50 backstroke.
The 800 free relay team consisting of freshman Beren Cakiroglu, junior Anna Kwon, freshman Olga Stoura, freshman Diya Ackerman-Vallala swam a time of 7:22.83 to place fifth in the event. Cakiroglu led the realy team with a personal-best time of 1:51.78 in the 200 frrestyle.
Men's Swimming & Diving
In the 200 medley relay, junior Beau Bengston, senior Jack Artis, junior Grant Beebe, senior Charles Blanc placed fourth, swimming a time of 1:28.58. Bengston swam the 50 backstroke to leadoff with a personal-best time of 22.71.
The 800 medley relay team of graduate student Emerson Kiefer, senior Juan Montori, sophomore Sammy Quigg and senior Eric Eastham finished fifth with a time of 6:32.06, as Kiefer led off with a personal-best time of 1:37.37 in the 200 freestyle.
On the Boards
Bell finished first in the men's one-meter dive with a score of 381.75, while graduate student Tommy Cotner took sixth place with a six-dive total 301.35.
