ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONS! Men’s Cross Country Claims Third A-10 Crown

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – University of Massachusetts men's cross country won its third Atlantic 10 title on Saturday morning at Pole Green Park in emphatic fashion, posting a score of 36 with all five of its scorers earning All-Atlantic 10 recognition with top-15 overall finishes. The next-closest team in the scoring in the 15- team field, Loyola Chicago, posted a score of 50. Head coach Tim Ritchie was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for leading UMass to its first title since 2008.
Bobby Carew led the Minutemen in second overall, clocking in at 23:44.4. Collin Catherwood was the next to finish for UMass, placing fifth in the 8K at 24 minutes, 5.7 seconds. Steps behind Catherwood, Michael Norberg claimed sixth as the squad's third scorer (24:09.5).
John Lucey took fourth on the team and ninth overall in the field of 142 competitors with a time of 24:13.6. The Minutemen's No. 5 finisher in 14th overall, Liam Ouellette posted a time of 24:25.3.
Though finishing outside the scoring for UMass, Erik Unger secured a top-20 individual finish in 19th overall.
The Minutemen will be back in action on Friday, November 15, when the squad travels to Hopkinton, New Hampshire for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships.
