Meet Primer
Coming off its best Atlantic 10 Championships finish since 2000 two weeks ago, University of Massachusetts women's cross country will head to the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire on Friday. The top two teams in each of nine total regionals will earn automatic qualification to the NCAA Championships for a total of 18 automatic qualifiers. The NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee will then choose 13 at-large teams to fill out the 31 team field. Individually, the first four finishers not on a qualifying team automatically advance to the championships. All four finishers have to finish in the top 25 within their region. Altogether, 36 individuals automatically qualify and two are chosen at-large, making 38 the grand total. The two at-large selections are the highest placing individuals at a regional that were not automatic qualifiers. At the A-10 meet, all five UMass scorers finished inside the top-40 in the 137-competitor field with Sydney Adams leading the way with a top-10 finish (ninth, 20:57.3). Eugenia Fairhurst followed in 12th, completing the 6K in 21 minutes, 2.5 seconds as both runners earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference recognition.
