Massachusetts Tennis Concludes Play At The Brown Classic

The Minutewomen won 4-3 over Boston University on Friday
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Massachusetts tennis team concluded their weekend at the Brown Classic on Saturday. The Minutewomen garnered a 4-3 win over Boston University on Friday, before falling in a tight 3-2 match against Brown on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday, UMass won both doubles matches over the Terriers to claim the doubles point. The duo of Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye won 6-2 over Boston University's Madison Liu and Blanka DeMicheli– before Mariana Campino and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul defeated Rhea Rai and Nina Gulbransen 6-2 of the Terriers.
In singles play, Campino won her match at No. 1 singles in a 6-3, 6-1 match over Liu of Boston University. Faessler continued UMass' dominance on court No. 3, with a three-set victory over the Terriers' Ellie Gyuro 7-6, (6) 5-7, 11-3. Cosima Trinity Calinescu clinched Massachusetts' 4-3 win, besting Rai of Boston University 7-5, 2-6, 11-9.
On Saturday, UMass began its match against Brown University by securing the doubles point. On court No. 1, the team of Faessler and Tye continued their strong weekend by besting the Bears' Ali Maguy and Addison Ahlstrom 6-1. Soon after, Campino and Jonglertrakul defeated Brown's Gabby Soliman and Lindsey Hofflander 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
The lone Massachusetts singles win came from Campino on court No. 1, where she completed a come-from-behind victory over the Bears' Ahlstrom 0-6, 6-2, 10-7. Campino went undefeated on the weekend in singles and doubles play.
Notably UMass split matches against the home team, winning both doubles matches and No. 1 singles– before Brown captured the remaining three matches at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles.
The Minutewomen look ahead to the Atlantic 10 Fall Individual Championship, beginning on Friday, October 25th through Saturday, October 27th.
