Men’s Soccer Adds Eight To Roster For 2023 Campaign

The Minutemen open the 2023 regular season campaign Thursday, August 24 at 5 p.m. against Northeastern at Rudd Field.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's soccer head coach Fran O'Leary announced the signings of eight student-athletes on Monday afternoon. The Minutemen open the 2023 regular season campaign Thursday, August 24 at 5 p.m. against Northeastern at Rudd Field.
Anthony Catanzaro (West Hartford, Conn.) was a three-time CCC All-Conference selection at Conard, where he finished his high school career with 43 goals and 14 assists. The two-time team MVP led Conard in goals three seasons while helping guide the team to three state tournament appearances. The attacker played club soccer with FSA FC and led the team to the ECNL National Playoffs in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022.
Pierre de la Croix-Vaubois (Washington, D.C.) joins the Minutemen after four years at Denison College, where he was twice named to the All-NCAC Second-Team squad. The defender helped the Big Red to six shutouts in 2022 while limiting opponents to one goal or less four times. Vaubois also earned an OCSA DIII Second-Team All-Ohio honor in 2021 and was tabbed a CSC Academic All-District Team member in 2022. He attended high school at Gonzaga College High School and was a first-team all-conference and all-state selection.
Bryant Keeney (Westfield, Mass.) spent his freshman season at Westfield State in 2022 and was named to the All-MASCAC Second-Team All-Conference squad after scoring a goal and adding three assists. Keeney attended high school at Pope Francis, where he was a four-year letterwinner and an all-state selection as a senior in 2021.
Lance McGrane (Kingston, Pa.) comes to Amherst after spending the previous two seasons at Michigan State, where he was a two-time Big 10 All-Academic Team member. The goalkeeper made four starts with seven appearances as a freshman and recorded a shutout win against Ohio State. McGrane finished his freshman campaign with a 2-2-1 record and made 15 saves in 507 minutes in 2021.
Shane McMillan (Penfield, N.Y.) joins the Minutemen after a freshman campaign at Robert Morris that saw him ranked fourth on the team in points while scoring two goals against IUPUI. McMillan attended Penfield High School, where he was a two-time Monroe County Division I leading goal scorer and finished as the fourth highest scorer in Penfield varsity history. The forward was a two-time All-Greater Rochester and three-time first-team all-county selection while earning the all-state nod as a senior. McMillan also helped his club team to two New York State Cup Championships and was tabbed to the ECNL All-Conference Midwest First Team.
Michael Rojas (Othello, Wash.) spent the previous four years at Washington, where he made his collegiate debut in 2019 following a redshirt season. Rojas attended Royal High School and helped lead his squad to three state regionals while being named the 2018 Gatorade Washington Soccer Player of the Year. The midfielder played club soccer with Washington East B99 and led the team to the Nationals in 2017.
Shane Velez (Perkasie, Pa.) joins UMass after spending four years on the varsity squad at Pennridge, where he was named the PSCA 2022 Pennsylvania Male Player of the Year after posting 17 goals and eight assists during his senior season. Velez scored 10 goals and dished out five assists during his senior year of club soccer, earning 2022 USC All-American and a U18 Boys ECNL First-Team Selection. The defender was also a three-time NCS State Champion.
Ivan Vrh (Greer, S.C.) was a four-year varsity team member and three-time all-region selection at Riverside. Vrh helped his team to two South Carolina 5A State Championships and was named an all-state selection. The defender played club soccer with Cesa ECNL, guiding his team to the ECNL National Finals while earning ECNL All-Conference honors.
