Massachusetts Leads A-10 With 371 On The Commissioner’s Honor Roll

The Atlantic 10 announced the honorees on Monday
NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced the Commissioner's Honor Roll for 2022-23 and Massachusetts led the league with 371 honorees.
All told, a record 3,954 student-athletes received A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction, marking the highest total in league history and the fourth year in a row the total number of honorees has topped 3,500. The total surpasses the record set in 2020-21 of 3,845 honorees. This year there were 327 student-athletes that achieved a 4.0 GPA, representing over eight percent of the total number of honorees nearly 22 student-athletes per school with perfect GPAs across the 15 member institutions. Two-thirds (a remarkable 66 percent) of the honorees, equalling 2,609 student-athletes, recorded a 3.5 GPA or better for the 2022-23 academic year. Additionally, the average number of honorees per school was 263.5.
"It is extraordinary that once again our student-athletes have set a record for Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction," stated A-10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. "Scholastic achievement is a cornerstone of the Atlantic 10 Conference, and the educational experience and academic success of our student-athletes is a priority to the A-10 membership. I applaud each of the 3,953 student-athletes and our 15 schools for their commitment and continued success."
Massachusetts had the most honorees with 371, followed by Davidson with 318. Fordham was third with 316 student-athletes honored, and Saint Joseph's (307) and George Mason (289) finished out the top five. The class is made up of 16.5 percent (653 total honorees) first year students, 22.4 percent (886 total) sophomores, 21.0 percent (832 total) juniors and 30.4 percent (1,202 total) seniors. There were 338 graduate students honored, comprising 8.5 percent of the class. Both the senior and graduate totals and percentages are increases over last year.
About the Commissioner's Honor Roll
Designed to recognize excellence in the classroom, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport at a full member institution must have a combined fall and spring semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the academic year to be selected for the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Both freshmen and graduate students are eligible to receive the award. In each of the last six years, the league honored over 3,000 student-athletes per year. Massachusetts had the most honorees with 371, followed by Davidson with 318.
