Hughes Invited To 2023 MLS College Showcase

NEW YORK, N.Y.- Senior forward Alec Hughes was invited to attend the 2023 Adidas MLS College Showcase as announced by the league on Tuesday. Hughes is one of 44 collegiate players to be selected and is the only one from the Atlantic 10 to receive the invitation. The event will take place from December 6-9 and will be held in Phoenix, Arizona.Â
Coming off his senior season, Hughes has racked up the accolades after leading the Atlantic 10 and the nation in regular season goals (14) and helping UMass get to the conference semifinals. Hughes was first team All-Conference and named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year for the second season in a row; becoming the second Minuteman to win the award in back-to-back seasons since Jeff Daren in 2001 and 2002. He also is the only Atlantic 10 player to win both Rookie of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year in their career.
Earlier in the season, Hughes was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 list. The Glastonbury, Connecticut native came in at 13 and was the highest ranked player from the Atlantic 10. Hughes also earned Preseason All-Conference and United Soccer Coaches Player to Watch accolades as well.
After a stellar senior year, Hughes carved his name into the record books. His 15 goals this season puts him in a tie for fifth in single season goals at UMass. He also is tied for seventh in single season points with 31. His 35 career goals moved him to sole possession of fifth for most goals in program history.
Hughes is hoping to become the third Minuteman to play in the MLS behind Yosuke Yanya ('22) and Mike Butler ('97) and the first to have his name called on draft day during the MLS SuperDraft on December 19th.
