AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team wraps up non-conference play on Wednesday at noon in the Mullins Center against UAlbany. The game marks the Holiday Game for the Minutewomen with 500 Massachusetts Hoops scarves being given away to fans.
Series History
Wednesday's game marks the second all-time meeting between the Minutewomen and Great Danes with the two programs matching up for the first time ever during the first round of the 2022-23 WNIT. UMass came away with a 73-48 win in the Mullins Center while holding UAlbany to 23-percent shooting on the day.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen picked up a 64-52 win over UMass Lowell in the Mullins Center on Dec. 10 before breaking from competition during finals week. Kristin Williams led UMass with a tied for career-high 19 points on 9-of-16 from the field while freshman Dallas Pierce added a career-best 10 points on 4-of-5 from the field. Stefanie Kulesza hauled in a tied for career-best 14 rebounds to lead all players.
Rookie Of The Week
Lilly Taulelei earned her first Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor on Dec. 11 after averaging 10 points per game on 75-percent from the field over two contests. The freshman opened the week by scoring 12 points on a perfect 6-for-6 from the field at Boston College to mark her third straight game in double figures.
Crashing The Boards
Stefanie Kulesza hauled in a tied for career-best 14 rebounds in the win over UMass Lowell to mark her fifth double-digit rebound performance of the season. Kulesza is averaging 8.6 boards per game for the season and came into the week among the top-50 nationally in total rebounds and 77th in the country in rebounds per game.
Pouring It In
Kristin Williams matched her career-high in scoring with 19 points in the win over UMass Lowell and made a career-best nine field goals in the process. Williams finished the afternoon shooting 9-of-16 from the field in nearly 30 minutes of action. On the season, Williams ranks second on the UMass squad in points per game at 10.8 and has made a team-leading 21 3-pointers.
Dallas' Day
Freshman guard Dallas Pierce set a new career-high with 10 points on 4-of-5 from the field in a win over UMass Lowell. Pierce also shot a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the 3-point line and has made at least one triple in seven of UMass' 11 contests.
Alexsia's Return
Senior guard Alexsia Rose made her UMass debut on Dec. 10 against UMass Lowell after missing the start of the season with an injury. Rose chipped in five points for UMass in her debut and started her career at East Carolina, appearing in 81 games in three seasons.
A-10 Play On The Way
The Minutewomen begin Atlantic 10 play on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 4:30 p.m. in Richmond, Va. against VCU. UMass returns home for its next two league games, beginning with Dayton on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 5 p.m. before hosting Saint Louis in a rematch of last year's A-10 title game on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m.
