Massachusetts Women’s Basketball Falls To UAlbany, 74-52

Williams recorded a team-high 14 points on the day.

AMHERST, Mass.– University of Massachusetts women's basketball fell, 74-52 to the University of Albany on Wednesday afternoon at the Mullins Center.  
 
Kristin Williams scored a team-leading 14 points, followed by Alexsia Rose and Lilly Taulelei with eight points apiece. Williams made 6-of-13 from the field, including two from beyond the arc. Taulelei was 4-for-6 from the field, while Rose made three field goals and went 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Stefanie Kulesza led the way with nine rebounds, as Chinenye Odenigbo tallied five boards. Williams and Lilly Ferguson had three assists each.  
 
From the charity stripe, UMass shot 62.5 percent (5-for-8).  
 
UAlbany started off on a 23-7 run early in the opening frame, but UMass began a 6-0 run to get back within 10 at 23-13. Kristin Williams put up seven of the Minutewomen's points, including the final four with Lilly Ferguson adding two in the run.  
 
An 11-2 run for the Great Danes kicked off the second quarter to take a 34-15 lead. Massachusetts went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 10, but UAlbany held the lead at 46-29 at the end of the first half. The Minutewomen shot 58.3 percent from the field in the quarter, knocking down 7-of-12.  

UMass had a 6-0 run, while holding UAlbany without a score for four minutes and 34 seconds of the third. Massachusetts held the Great Danes to no field goals for over six minutes of play in the fourth quarter, but UAlbany remained ahead to cling on to a 74-52 win.  
 
The Minutewomen begin Atlantic 10 play on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 4:30 p.m. in Richmond, Va. against VCU. UMass returns home for its next two league games, beginning with Dayton on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 5 p.m. before hosting Saint Louis in a rematch of last year's A-10 title game on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m.
