Minutewomen Claim 3-1 Win Over Regional Rival UConn

Amherst, Mass. -- Massachusetts (8-6, 2-2) executed down the stretch claiming a 3-1 victory over UConn (5-8, 2-2) on Sunday afternoon at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex. The victory gives the Minutewomen their first win streak over the Huskies since 1993 and marks their 15th win in the all-time series.

Goalkeeper Myrte van Herwijnen continued her strong stretch of play, tying her season-high with 14 total saves in the victory. The sophomore led a defensive penalty corner unit that stood strong on 15 total attempts from the Huskies and made at least two saves in each period of play. Van Herwijnen has recorded 20 saves over the last two games, allowing only two goals in that span.

The Minutewomen have been flawless in penalty corner execution over the last two-games, not allowing a single goal despite 26 penalty corner attempts from Saint Joseph's (11) and UConn (15).

Junior Dempsey Campbell scored in back-to-back games for Massachusetts, marking her fourth goal of the season. The Saunderstown, Rhode Island native leads the team in total shots (25) and sits second in shots on goal (12) this season.

Junior Hannah de Gast and sophomore Mali Herberhold each recorded a goal and an assist in the third period of play to lift the Minutewomen to a two-goal advantage they would not relinquish. Herberhold leads Massachusetts in goals (15), assists (4) and points (14).

De Gast, who continues to be effective in inserting attack penalty corners, now sits third on the team in goals (3) and assists (2).

UConn was led by Julia Bressler who scored her ninth goal of the season.
