UMass Falls At Saint Joseph’s, 74-68

Matt Cross finished with his second consecutive double-double while RJ Luis and Rahsool Diggins each added 15 points.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team fell to Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon in Hagan Arena, 74-68. The Minutemen (11-8 Overall, 2-5 Atlantic 10) rallied from down double-digits to retake the lead with under eight minutes to go before a 13-2 Hawks (9-10 Overall, 3-4 Atlantic 10) scoring run helped them regain control.
UMass began the day a perfect 3-for-3 from deep, including triples from RJ Luis and Dyondre Dominguez off the bench as the Minutemen took a 16-10 advantage early. Luis finished with a tied for team-high 15 points on 7-of-9 from the field while Dominguez scored all nine of his points in the opening frame. UMass finished the day at 47-percent from behind the 3-point line and shot 46-percent from the field.
The Hawks answered with a 12-2 run to go ahead 38-26 with just over four minutes left in the half, their largest lead of the afternoon. Cameron Brown led Saint Joseph's with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-12 from the field while Erik Reynolds II added 23 points.
UMass opened up the second half on a 9-2 run to pull within two points less than three minutes in. Rahsool Diggins helped the Minutemen tie it up with back-to-back 3-pointers before a Matt Cross runner gave UMass a 52-51 lead with 13:49 left to play. Diggins finished with a career-high 15 points and went 3-of-6 from deep.
Cross, meanwhile, added 14 points of his own on his way to his second consecutive double-double and fourth of the year. The junior finished with 10 rebounds, a tied for season-high five assists, and four steals.
Saint Joseph's 6-0 run as part of a 13-2 run over nearly six minutes of play gave the Hawks a double-digit lead at 64-54 with 8:10 remaining. The Minutemen pulled back within four on a Diggins layup with 1:33 left before the Hawks answered back with a 3-pointer that stretched their advantage back to seven. The Hawks finished the day 44-percent from the field and out-rebounded the Minutemen 35-32 with 22 second chance points.
The Minutemen return home to the Mullins Center for their next two games beginning with a Wednesday night matchup against Richmond.
