Massachusetts Tennis Caps Positive Weekend At The Army Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts tennis team returned to the courts for the first tournament of its fall slate at the Army Invitational, hosted by Army. Junior Danielle Hack advanced to the Flight A Semifinals of the Main Draw Singles, capping off the successful weekend for the Minutewomen, as the team went 9-5 overall in singles competition.

Five athletes competed in the singles play, beginning on Friday morning, with freshman Melisa Senli making her debut for UMass. The Izmir, Turkey, native defeated her Stony Brook opponent 6-2, 6-1, in her first collegiate match in the Flight A Round of 32, while Hack, Thamonpan Jonglertrakul (Flight B), Mariya Krasakova (Flight B) and Anna Napadiy (Flight C) all claimed victories over their respective opponents to reach the Round of 16.

Senli, Hack and Jonglertrakul advanced to the Quarterfinals after downing their competition, as Hack earned a spot in the Semifinals with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Loreto Del Carmen Villalba Rubio of Stony Brook. Hack fell to Army's Cooper Jackson in a hard fought 6-4, 4-6, (11-9) match to complete the weekend's competition on Sunday afternoon.

UMass competed in the Main Draw Doubles, as well, with duo Senli and Krasakova, and Hack and Jonglertrakul. Both doubles teams received a bye in the Round of 64 to reach the Round of 32. Senli and Krasakova faltered, 7-5, to Natalia Aruj and Loren Cuomo of Binghamton, while Hack and Jonglertrakul dropped a 6-2 match to Bucknell's Whitney King and Abby Platt.

Massachusetts travels to Hanover, New Hampshire, on Friday, Sept. 30 through Sunday, Oct. 2, to continue fall competition in the Regionals, hosted by Dartmouth.
