No. 22 Massachusetts Field Hockey Blanks Providence, 2-0

Herberhold, Smith notched a goal and an assist each to carry the Minutewomen over the Friars.
IOWA CITY, Iowa - No. 22 Massachusetts Field Hockey faced off against the Providence Friars on Saturday afternoon at Grant Field at the University of Iowa, winning by a score of 2-0. Freshmen Mali Herberhold and Mia Smith led the team to victory by registering three points apiece during the match.
The first half was even, with only one shot being taken in the first quarter. Freshman Mali Herberhold opened scoring on the day when she took a close shot and scored at 10:00 in the second quarter thanks to freshman Mia Smith's pass. Just under four minutes later, at 13:53 in the second quarter, roles were reversed as Smith scored her first goal as a Minutewoman off a deflection, and Herberhold registered the assist.
Massachusetts led the day in shots (12-0), shots on goal (6-0), and corners (3-0). Providence goaltender Asia Porter registered 4 saves on the day. The win leads Massachusetts to a 4-1 record, while the Friars fall to 1-5.
The Minutewomen return to action tomorrow, Sunday, September 11, as they take on the No. 6 University of Iowa Hawkeyes at 2 p.m. at Grant Field in Iowa City, Iowa.
