Massachusetts Tennis’ Rookie Class Ranked No. 15 Among Top Incoming Groups

Nunez’s recruiting class ranked for the third straight year.

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts tennis and head coach Juancarlos Nunez's incoming class of Melisa Senli earned the No. 15 national mid-major ranking from TennisRecruiting.net. The premier ranking placed Massachusetts among only two New England-based programs, as well Atlantic 10 Conference teams tabbed to the top-25.
 
The No. 15 ranking in 2022 marks the fourth time in the last five years , and third consecutive, that TennisRecruiting.net placed Nunez's incoming class among the top mid-major signees nationally after the 2021-22, 2020-21 and 2019-20 newcomers placed No. 16, No. 7 and No. 18, respectively.
 
Senli hails from Izmir, Turkey, and studied at Okyanus High School. During her career, she ranked as high as No. 215 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Ranking, while holding her highest Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 10.11. She recently achieved a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) ranking of 1,426 and an ITF Pro Circuit ranking of 842.
 
"I'm excited to welcome Melisa into our program," said Nunez. "From the moment we started communicating, I could sense how passionate and driven she is, and she has the qualities we are looking for both on the court as a strong tennis player and off the court as an individual of high character."
 
Senli trained at the Iztik Tennis Center, where she had been a member of the Turkish Olympic Preparation Program for five years and represented Turkey at the Youth Olympic Games. At the ITF World Junior Team Finals, the Izmir, Turkey, native, aided her team to a fourth-place finish. Most recently, she was selected to the U18 Turkey National Team after reaching the finals of the Turkish National Selection Tournament.
 
She also competed in multiple tournaments as a junior player, and was a Singles Champion in 2021 and a six-time Doubles Champion (3x, 2020; 2x, 2021). Senli was a two-time Doubles Finalist in both 2019 and 2021, and a four-time Singles Finalist, once in 2020 and three times in 2021.
