Women’s Tennis Completes Competition At New England Regionals

The Minutewomen competed in both singles and doubles during the three-day event.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis completed competition at the New England Regionals, hosted by Harvard. The three-day event included Minutewomen playing in both singles and doubles matches.
Five Minutewomen kicked off the event in the Qualifying Singles Round of 64. Madara Markevica defeated her Harvard opponent, Natasha Rajaram, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the Round of 32. In the Round of 32, Markevica downed Alexandra Torre of Boston College, 6-3, 7-6(3) to earn a spot in the Main Draw Singles.
Amanda de Oliveira took on Selma Bellaouchi of Siena, winning 6-7(10), 6-1, 6-1 to move on to the Round of 32, where she fell to Brown's Hannah Shen, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Ella Faessler also advanced to the Round of 32 after defeating Angel Walia of Binghamton, 6-2, 6-2,before falling to Vasilisa Borisova of Boston University, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
Martina Pavissich won her Round of 64 match over Lilly Black of Quinnipiac, 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-3, but fell in the Round of 32 to Abigail Lee of Brown, 6-4, 6-1. Fiona Chang dropped her first match to Monika Wojcik, 7-5, 3-6, 10-4.
In the Main Draw Singles, Markevica fell to Cloe Lomans of UConn, 6-2, 6-2, in the Round of 256. Amelia Tye dropped her Main Draw match, 6-1, 7-5, to Yale's Leena Friedman.
The Main Draw Doubles saw Tye and Faessler team up in the Round of 64, defeating Arya Chabria and Piper Remillard of Stonehill, 8-2. The duo advanced to the Round of 32, falling to Viktoria Lorentzon and Tessa Wachtel of Marist, 8-5.
Chang and Markevica paired up in the first round of doubles competition, dropping their match to Gabriella Mikaul and Jiayi Liu of Boston University, 8-7(3). Pavissich and de Oliveira fell to Friedman and Orly Ogilvy of Yale in their match, 8-2, while Defne Su Sever and Owethu Makhanya were downed by Le Moyne's Emma Sanchez and Ella Fernando, 8-3.
