Women's Track & Field Opens Home Schedule With First-Place Team Finish

The Minutewomen posted a score of 274, leading Holy Cross (149.5), Amherst (119.5), Merrimack (66), Hartford (48) and Northeastern (45).
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field opened its home outdoor slate with a first-place team finish in a field of six schools at the UMass Track & Field Complex on Sunday. The Minutewomen posted a score of 274, leading Holy Cross (149.5), Amherst (119.5), Merrimack (66), Hartford (48) and Northeastern (45).
Lillian Kirry won the 400 meter dash in 55.65 seconds, the third-fastest time in program history and fastest since 2017. Sadai Headley-Mawasi was the runner-up in 57.23 seconds and Daniella Pierre and Sarah Witt took sixth and seventh with times of 58.33 seconds and 59.03 seconds, respectively.
Grace Poku finished first in the 100 meter dash, running 12.36 seconds. Caroline Schissel followed in second with a time of 12.37 seconds and Abby Collins captured sixth in 12.67 seconds.
Faith Richardson won the 200 meter dash in 25.30 seconds, while Kira Kopec was third (25.62), Jordan Lafave fourth (25.94), Headley Mawasi fifth (25.95), Schissel seventh (26.00) and Elizabeth Hoenes eighth (26.13).
Colette O'Leary led the way in the 800 meter run, crossing the finish with the winning time of 2 minutes, 14.18 seconds and Eugenia Fairhurst placed fourth (2:18.45).
Katelyn Gorgenyi, Elizabeth Lodge and Elizabeth Lee made it a 1-2-3 sweep in 100 meter hurdles at 14.93, 15.53 and 15.58, respectively.
Sarah Conant placed third in 1,500 meter run, clocking in at 4 minutes, 45.93 seconds and Ecaterina Rojco was third in 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 6.07 seconds.
UMass took five of the top eight places in long jump, led by Emily McDonald with a mark of 18 feet, 1 inch. Lafave was second (17'6.57"), Katelyn Gorgenyi third (17'6.75"), Lodge seventh (16'7.25") and Nisa Denehy eighth (16'4.25"). MacDonald also won triple jump (37'0.25"), while Jessica Green was fifth (35'0.25"), Casey Conroy sixth (34'2.25") and Jessica Dronzek seventh (34'1.5").
Danielle Notarfrancesco won shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 11.5 inches and Gabriella Pagnini was fifth (37'6.75"). Anna Cozzolino posted the top throw in javelin at 139 feet, 6 inches, while Sara Folan placed sixth (112'6"). UMass scored four in hammer, including event winner Cheyenne Figueroa who was victorious with a toss of 174 feet, 3 inches. Voski Armenakyan landed third (166'8"), Notarfranceco fifth (146'11") and Pagnini seventh (139'6").
In high jump, Courtney Rowland was second with a height of 5'3.25" and Lea Doerries was fourth, clearing 5'1.25". Sophia Casciano registered a second-place showing in pole vault at 12'1.5".
The UMass "A" team of Poku, Schissel, Collins and Richardson won the 4x100 meter relay, combining for a time of 47.56 seconds. The "B" team of Nisa Denehy, Hoenes, Lafave and Elizabeth Lee claimed third in 49.81 seconds.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the Minutewomen's "C" team of O'Leary, Samantha Schwers, Hannah Rose Beckman and Jaden Young took fourth in 4 minutes, 13.40 seconds.
UMass next travels to Providence, Rhode Island for the Ocean State Invitational and the Brown Invitational on April 8-9.
