Cross, Kirry Named UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

Cross' naming as the MVP of Sunday's Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational game and Kirry's winning of the URI Pentathlon on Friday earned the duo the weekly award.
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts' men's basketball forward Matt Cross and women's track and field multi and hurdler Lillian Kirry were titled the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week presented by UMass Five, as announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Cross averaged a team-leading 12.3 points per game to go along with 5.3 rebounds per contest as the Minutemen went 2-1 last week with wins over UAlbany and Hofstra. The Beverly, Mass. native poured in a career-high 19 points with five steals while going 8-for-8 at the line against UMass Lowell on Thursday. The junior capped the week by scoring 12 points to go along with nine rebounds in Sunday night's win over Hofstra at the Basketball Hall of Fame Invitational in Brooklyn and was named the game's MVP for his efforts.
Kirry won the URI Pentathlon on Friday with a personal best score of 3,424. The Chewelah, Wash. native recorded personal bests in the high jump, shot put, and long jump. Additionally, the junior won the long jump and the 800-meter run events to make her victorious in the competition.
