AMHERST, Mass. - The No. 2-seeded University of Massachusetts field hockey team will take on the No. 1-seeded Saint Joseph's Hawks for the Atlantic 10 Championship title at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 5. The match will be held at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex and will be streamed on ESPN+. The winner of the contest will also earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Field Hockey Tournament. 

Last Time Out
The Minutewomen defeated the No. 3-seeded Lock Haven Bald Eagles on Thursday afternoon by a score of 4-2. Freshman Paula Lorenzini and senior Steph Gottwals each recorded a goal and an assist, while senior Jess Beech and freshman Mia Smith each notched one goal apiece to solidify the win. Freshman goalkeeper Myrte van Herwijnen recorded six saves in the semifinal victory.

Scouting the Hawks
Saint Joseph's won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title with a perfect 7-0 record in conference play, as well as a 14-4 overall record. Until Thursday afternoon's semifinal win against VCU, the Hawks had not allowed a single goal against a conference opponent this season. Saint Joseph has scored 57 goals to opponents' 17 this season, with this number significantly impacted by Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year Lily Santi (16 goals), Manu Ghigliotti (9 goals), and Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year Freke van Tilburg (8 goals). Santi, van Tilburg, and Ghigliotti also lead the team in assists, having recorded 9, 7, and 4, respectively. Goalkeeper Robin Bleekemolen sits at a 12-4 record in the cage this season, having started in all 18 games played. The senior has recorded 43 saves on 108 shots faced.

Massachusetts Boasts Eight Postseason Atlantic 10 Award Winners
The Minutewomen were victorious in conference postseason awards, as announced by the league on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Mali Herberhold collected three accolades, including Massachusetts' first Rookie of the Year award since 2014, as well as a spot on the All-Conference Second Team and the All-Rookie Team. Senior Jess Beech and freshman goalkeeper Myrte van Herwijnen were named to the All-Conference First Team, while junior Claire Danahy, Herberhold, and seniors Bella Ianni and Josie Rossbach were named to the All-Conference Second Team. Massachusetts was represented by Herberhold and Gabrielle Benkenstein on the All-Rookie Team, while Beech, Steph Gottwals, and Rossbach were selected for the All-Academic Team.

UMass in the Atlantic 10 Tournament
Massachusetts last hosted the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey tournament in 2017, when they lost in 2OT to Saint Joseph's in the Championship match. In 24 Atlantic 10 Championship games, the Minutewomen are 16-8. Their last Atlantic 10 Championship came in 2016, when they bested Saint Joseph's by a score of 2-1. This is UMass' second trip to the Conference Championship game under Coach Barb Weinberg.
