AMHERST, Mass. - The No. 18 University of Massachusetts field hockey team is scheduled to take on two matches this weekend, opening up against the VCU Rams on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. and wrapping the weekend up with a non-conference match against the No. 23-ranked UAlbany Great Danes on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen went 1-1 on the weekend, losing their match to No. 9 Saint Joseph's, 3-0, on Friday before edging Yale 1-0 in non-conference play on Sunday. Senior Bella Ianni notched the lone goal of the match less than one minute into the first quarter to win the game for Massachusetts.
Scouting the Rams
VCU is currently 8-5 on the season (3-1 Atlantic 10), going 2-3 on the road. Bridget McCormick currently leads the Rams in goals on the season, having notched six so far, with Litiana Field and Camila Rosenbrock have each recorded five goals. Jaimie McCormick leads the team in assists with five, while Field, Lonica McKinney, and Morgan Hanley have each registered four assists on the season. Goalkeeper Sheridan Messier has seen a bulk of the action in the cage, having recorded 48 saves in 13 games played.
Scouting the Great Danes
No. 23 UAlbany is currently 9-4 on the season, having gone 3-2 in America East Conference play. Alison Smisdom leads the team in goals with 11 on the season so far. Luisa Knapp and Sophia Schoonmaker are tied for having the second-most goals with five goals each. Smisdom and Bianca Orsola are co-leaders of the team in assists, each having six. Goalkeeper Hannah Mangan has started in 11 of the Great Danes' 13 games this season, having recorded 41 saves on 104 shots faced.

The Minutewomen go back on the road to take on the Richmond Spiders on Friday, October 21 at 1 p.m. before coming home to play in their home regular season finale against the Lock Haven Bald Eagles on Friday, October 28 at 3 p.m. at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex.
