AMHERST, Mass. – Massachusetts men's basketball head coach Matt McCall announced Wednesday that Greg Jones has transferred to the Minutemen program. Jones comes to UMass from Southern Connecticut State.

"Greg is a high character young man who has a tremendous passion for the game," McCall said. "We are extremely excited to bring someone with so much positive energy into our program. Greg is a tough kid who is willing to embrace the challenge of playing and guarding multiple positions on the floor. Those are the kind of guys we want here at UMass."

In his first season at Southern Connecticut State in 2019-20, Jones started in all 25 games he played averaging 13.8 points, 1.6 assists, 7.6 rebounds, and 0.9 steals per game. He led the team in free throws made and attempted, as well as blocks, and also 48.3% overall, 34.2% from three-point range, and 88.9 percent from the free throw line during the season. Jones scored at least 20 points in five games, highlighted by a 31-point game on 12-of-20 shooting from the field against Stonehill on Jan. 25, 2020, and reached double-figures 18 times.

The Bronx, N.Y. native also recorded four double-doubles in 2019-20, including a 25-point, 15-rebound performance on Jan. 22, 2020 against Franklin Pierce.

The 2020-21 NCAA Division II season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but Jones earned Northeast 10 Academic Honors for the second straight year.

Jones began his collegiate career at James Madison, where he appeared in 64 career games and averaged better than 13 minutes per game over two seasons, including 13 starts.
