Hanya, Hughes Named To United Soccer Coaches All-Region First-Team

The pair helped the Minutemen to a 7-2-3 overall record and a trip back to the NCAA Tournament this season.
AMHERST, Mass. -Â Yosuke Hanya and Alec Hughes were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region First-Team on Tuesday after helping UMass return to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in four seasons.
Hanya (Tokyo, Japan) was named first-team all-region after finishing the regular season ranked 12th nationally in assists and 15th in assists per game. The Atlantic 10 First-Team selection helped the UMass offense score 2.30 goals per game in the regular season and picked up a three assist game in a win over Rhode Island.
Hughes (Glastonbury, Conn.) earned the all-region honors after leading the Atlantic 10 in both goals (7) and points (16) while ranking 12th nationally in total goals at the end of the regular season. The A-10 Rookie of the Year and first-team all-conference selection scored goals in four of six league matches as he became the first Minuteman to win the league's rookie honor since 2017.
The Minutemen finished the 2020 campaign with a 7-2-3 record and qualified for the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
