AMHERST, Mass. -- Welcome to Mass Impact, presented by the UMassFive College Credit Union! Mass Impact is a series featuring alumni discussing how their experiences at the University of Massachusetts helped shape their lives and made them the people they are today.

Today, Shawn Green reflects on the impact his UMass men's soccer career had on his professional career as the Chief Revenue Officer for Saltmine. 

What transferrable skills did you learn as a student-athlete that have helped you be successful in your field?
· Commitment to Excellence
· Desire and Motivation
· Building values that would stay with me my entire life
· Goal Setting 
· Positive Mind-state 
· Compartmentalize what was in my control vs. what was out of my control
· Taking ownership in my actions on and off the field
· Supreme Concentration. Truly great athletes have an almost innate ability to get into the zone when they need to

Sam Koch and Jr Pouncey (three-year captain)
 
How did being a Division I student-athlete help shape who you are today?
· Confidence and self-belief that I can accomplish anything I put my mind towards
· Humility and empathy 
· Playing through pain
· Never give up attitude
· Discipline and conviction 
· A sense of family
· Lead from the front and always support others along the way 
 
How has UMass Athletics left a lasting impact on your life?
I use the Flagship as a foundation to every sales organization I build.  This allows me to establish the right culture for rapid growth year over year.  Using these key drivers: Family, Leadership, Authenticity, Grit, Service, Heart, Integrity and Passion gives us a leg up on the competition.
