Today, Edgar Padilla '97 reflects on the impact his UMass men's basketball career had on his professional career as the Executive Director of Doctors' Center Hospital, San Fernando De La Carolina.
What transferrable skills did you learn as a student-athlete that have helped you be successful in your field?
The value of teamwork, patience, pay attention to details, mental toughness and making the most out of every opportunity.
Who had the greatest influence on you during your time at UMass?
Coach Calipari had the most influence on me during my time at UMass. He introduced me to the Refuse to Lose concept that have governed my life since.
How did being a Division I student-athlete help shape who you are today?
It provided me the structure and discipline needed to be successful.
How has UMass Athletics left a lasting impact on your life?
UMass Athletics introduced me to a great group of human beings that became my extended family. Together we developed a winning culture and lived unforgettable experiences that changed our lives forever.
