Trivigno’s three-point night helps propel the Minutemen to the win at the Mullins Center on Friday.
AMHERST, Mass. – No. 10 University of Massachusetts hockey used two goals from junior Bobby Trivigno in the opening period and the squad added three more in the second to roll to a 5-0 win over #16 UMass Lowell on Friday night at the Mullins Center. "I liked the way we played tonight," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "It was consistent, we checked well. Fille gets the shutout, he had to make a couple good saves, but I thought the team played very well in front of him. I thought that was very much a team shutout tonight."
Â
Trivigno opened the scoring 8:31 into the first period, collecting the puck off the half wall from junior Garrett Wait, driving to the net and flipping it past Owen Savory for his sixth of the season. His second of the contest came just 3:53 later, once again set up by Wait, giving UMass a 2-0 cushion after one.
Â
Sophomore Matthew Kessel finished off a 3-on-1 from freshman Josh Lopina and Trivigno at the 3:33 mark of the second period for his ninth of the year. Then 12:33 into the stanza, sophomore Cal Kiefiuk banged home a rebound from the slot with freshmen Aaron Bohlinger and Ryan Sullivan collecting the assists to push the margin to 4-0.
Â
Sophomore Jerry Harding capped the scoring at the 16:41 mark of the second, redirecting a pass from senior George Mika at the top of the crease. Junior Colin Felix earned a helper on the play, as well.
Â
UMass finished the evening with a 27-16 shot advantage, while both teams were 0-for-1 on the power play. Junior Filip Lindberg made 16 saves to pick up his second shutout in the past three games and Savory and Henry Welsch split time for the River Hawks and had 13 and 9 saves, respectively.
