Track and field's Jada Harris, men's lacrosse redshirt senior Billy Philpott recognized
AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts Athletics announced women's track and field senior Jada Harris and men's lacrosse redshirt senior Billy Philpott as the UMass Spring Scholar-Athlete award winners on Wednesday in recognition of their accomplishments in competition and in the classroom.
Harris was named the women's Most Outstanding Field Performer at the Atlantic 10 Championships after totaling 28 individual points to help the Minutewomen to the team title. She won two of UMass' five gold medals at the meet with A-10 titles in high jump (5'8") and 60 meter hurdles, matching the meet record with a winning time of 8.45 seconds. Additionally, Harris took silver medal in long jump, breaking a 34-year old school record in long jump, leaping 19 feet 3.5 inches. A dual-major in social thought and political economy as well as communication, she was named a 2020 Atlantic 10 Women's Indoor Track and Field Academic All-Conference selection.
Philpott played in all seven games, with one start on the first-line midfield and finished the pandemic-shortened spring campaign with 14 goals and two assists for 16 points. His biggest games came back-to-back when he provided a single-game career high four goals, dished out an assist and collected a groundball in the 13-10 upset of No. 1 Yale before he tied his single-game career high with four goals in the win over UAlbany. A two-way midfield, Philpott also played short-stick defensive midfield and contributed to the clear and ride units.
