Need to Knows

• In search of its third straight win, University of Massachusetts women's basketball heads to Fairfax, Virginia to meet Atlantic 10 foe George Mason. Opening tip at EagleBank Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 5 with the matchup broadcast on ESPN+.

• Massachusetts looks to keep rolling after a thrilling come-from-behind win at Davidson on Sun., Feb. 2. Trailing by 13 points in the third quarter, the Minutewomen rallied down the stretch and came away with a 70-62 triumph–UMass' third in the last four meetings with the Wildcats.

• Junior Sam Breen continues to make a splash and was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Mon., Feb. 3. Breen was instrumental in the Davidson win and finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds–her third double-double since becoming eligible on Dec. 21.

• Breen along with senior Hailey Leidel combined for 51 points at Davidson, 31 of which came in the second half rally effort.

• In a nationally-televised win over Richmond on Jan. 29, Breen made her first collegiate start and dropped a game-high 26 points on 11-of-22 shooting, while also pulling down eight rebounds. Leidel contributed 11 points, vaulting her over 1,700 in her career and becoming the first player in program history to log 1,700 points, 600 rebounds and 200 assists.

• Fellow senior Vashnie Perry was instrumental all over the floor in the Richmond game with eight points, five rebounds, four steals and eight assists which tied a career-high.

• Leidel moved up to No. 3 on the Massachusetts all-time career scoring list in the game at George Washington on Jan. 26. The Brownstown, Mich. native (1,701) needs 65 points to tie former Minutewoman Octavia Thomas (1992-96; 1,791 points) for No. 2 on the list. She has made at least one three-point field goal in 27 straight games since Feb. 24, 2019, and 44 of her last 45 games dating back to Dec. 7, 2018.

• Among multiple crucial additions for the Maroon and White this season has been the interior shot-altering presence of freshman Maeve Donnelly.  With 62 blocks on the season, Donnelly has set the freshman program record after passing Melissa Gurile (52 in 1992-93) in the George Washington game on Jan. 26. Donnelly needs six more stops to tie the program's single-season record of 68, last matched by Maggie Mulligan in 2017-18.

• The Minutewomen are back home at the Mullins Center on Sat., Feb. 8, welcoming Fordham to Amherst for a 1 p.m. game on Jack Leaman Court.
