• Winners in nine straight and 12 of its last 13, University of Massachusetts women's basketball returns to the Mullins Center for a Sat., Jan. 11 matinee vs. conference foe Saint Joseph's. It is UMass' first home Atlantic 10 Conference tilt of the year and opening tip is slated for noon on ESPN+.
• Both teams will be wearing yellow shoelaces in partnership with the "Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer" initiative sponsored by the Go4theGoal Foundation, a non-profit which provides supportive services to children battling cancer and their families. For more information, visit Go4theGoal.org or follow @Go4theGoal on Twitter.
• A win for the Minutewomen Saturday would secure the first 10-game winning streak in program history. Including this current one, there have been five different nine-game winning streaks at UMass, with the last coming from Feb. 4-March 1, 1998.
• The Maroon and White are coming off of a 62-52 triumph at St. Bonaventure on Wed., Jan. 8. Senior Hailey Leidel poured in a game-high 22 points to record her seventh 20-plus point performance of the year and junior Sam Breen came off the bench to nearly log a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Destiney Philoxy returned to game action following injury and dished out four assists on the night.
• Historically St. Joe's has had the upper hand with the Minutewomen, holding a 50-10 advantage in the all-time series. Last year in Philadelphia, the Minutewomen nearly erased an 18-point third quarter deficit, but the squad ran out of time in the end and fell, 55-54, at Hagan Arena.
• Leidel moved up to No. 4 on the Massachusetts all-time career scoring list in the game at Boston University on Dec. 11. The Brownstown, Mich. native (1,616) needs 63 points to tie former Minutewoman Melissa Gurile Black (1992-96; 1,679) for No. 3 on the list. At the top is Sue Peters (1,858), who reached that mark in a career spanning 1976-80.
• In the St. Bona game on Jan. 8, Leidel eclipsed both the 1,600-point and 600-rebound milestones, becoming one of only three players in program history to accomplish such a feat. She has made at least one three-point field goal in 20 straight games since Feb. 24, 2019, and 37 of her last 38 games dating back to Dec. 7, 2018.
• Perhaps one of the biggest new additions for the Maroon and White this season has been the inside presence of freshman Maeve Donnelly. Donnelly (3 blk/gm) is second among Division I freshmen in blocks per game and with 45 total, needs just seven to tie the UMass freshman record–Melissa Gurile Black had 52 stops in her rookie season of 1992-93.
