Brodeur Receives Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award

UMass Athletics Director of Sports Medicine recognized by National Athletic Trainers' Association
LAS VEGAS - University of Massachusetts Athletics Director of Sports Medicine Jennifer Brodeur received the 2019 Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award from the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) during the organizations annual conference being held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from June 24 - 27.
Brodeur, the department's head athletic trainer, is in her 13th year at the University of Massachusetts currently, which is also her 12th working with the football team and her 11th as the program's primary athletic trainer. Brodeur is one of 11 female athletic trainers who serves as the primary caregiver for a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) program, and is one of only five who also holds the role of their respective athletic department's head athletic trainer.
"We are so proud of Jenn on being recognized for her leadership in the athletic training profession," said Senior Associate AD for Internal Operations/Deputy Title IX Coordinator Jeff Smith. "The Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award is such a prestigious honor in the NATA organization and she is so deserving because of what she has done to promote and progress our profession on the state, district and national levels. We know how special Jenn is as a leader and are so proud that she leads our Sports Medicine unit at the University of Massachusetts."
The NATA's Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award is given annually to a member of the NATA who demonstrates exceptional commitment to leadership, volunteer service, advocacy and distinguished professional activities as an athletic trainer.
Brodeur has been lauded throughout her tenure In recognition of her success. In 2017, she was honored with the College and University Athletic Trainers Committee's New Horizon Award in recognition of her attributes of a future leader in the field. She was also named the Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year by the National Athletic Trainers Association in June 2013, an award only given to one individual per year. Prior to that, Brodeur tallied the 2009 Athletic Trainer Service Award. She was one of just 16 recipients of the annual award that recognizes NATA members for their contributions to the athletic training profession and the association.
In addition to her work with UMass Athletics, Brodeur is a contributing member of the Intercollegiate Council on Sports Medicine, which collaborates closely with the NCAA on understanding and addressing health and safety concerns for student-athletes.
Brodeur is currently the Past President of the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association. She also previously served as President-Elect and President of ATOM (Athletic Trainers of Massachusetts) and RIATA (Rhode Island Athletic Trainers Association).
